The Soma Approach

The Soma Therapy  and Soma Training programs interest those who are already involved in a manual medicine specialty as well as using exercise and wellness techniques to improve general health and function of their clients.

As the soma training program enhances the ability to teach and prescribe proper exercise, stretching, and therapeutic modalities, as well as prepare the trainer for the therapy program.   Soma therapy  program aspires to develop the most skilled practitioners, through the process of  treatment of the joints, soft tissues, visceral and neuromuscular systems with manual neuromuscular facilitation to enhance optimum motor control and human function.  The two programs work together to  form one of the most comprehensive rehabilitation programs.

What’s different with this program versus other therapies and training programs is that it takes into account the whole picture.  As learned through Dr. Voyer’s teaching, “everything is in link.” Meaning always look away from the site of pain in order to treat.  Why treat the area of discomfort if it is caused by another area of the body.  In addition, after a treatment we always send patients home with exercises, stretches, and postures to keep the body in proper alignment to enhance the treatment.  Without the exercise prescription you are setting yourself up for a long drawn out therapy with no end in sight. We practice the philosophy that “you are your best therapist,” and have found that if patients do the prescribed program there results are reached in a more timely manner.

These programs are taught by dr. Guy Voyer.  To learn more about him please visit: http://guyvoyer-do.com/
